Allergies and skin reactions related to gloves

Type IV allergy: Mechanism

Type IV allergy is an immune reaction, of the delayed hypersensitivity type, mediated by cells, T-cells, and not by antibodies.
Type IV allergy is induced by penetration of natural or synthetic low-molecular weight compounds into the skin ( haptens ). Haptens only become immunological after covalent or non-covalent binding to the proteins of epidermal cells (or carrier cells) and enzymatic digestion in cells presenting with the antigen (Langerhans cells) in the skin.
